Professional Development
Honored to be nominated for Teacher of the Year with my fellow colleagues.
I am proud to be part of an Apple Distinguished school! We have been recognized for our implementation of digital writing and authentic application of personalized learning.
In my classroom, we are using the I-pads daily. We use google docs to share and collect information. We create I-movies and Educreations. We record our reading strategies through Corkulous. We use apps to guide us in math facts and science skills. Each student has also created their own online portfolio through weebly.

Currently, I am attending the Common Core Math Institute for 2013-2014. The purpose of this program is to: develop teacher content knowledge in Common Core and practices and develop teachers as leaders within their own school.
I use what is discussed in this program and implement them in my own classroom as well as sharing information with colleagues.

I have been the magnet coordinator for Emma K Doub for the past two years. It is my responsibility to organize and lead monthly meetings with the magnet team. I am the liaison for communication between the magnet department at the board and our school. I am responsible for organizing the application progress for our school program.
I am also part of the SIT team. The job of the school improvement team is to lead the development of a school improvement plan that addresses student achievement needs, to monitor the implementation of the plan, and to revise it when appropriate.

This year I will be completing my certification in Gifted and Talented Education. Through this CaseNex courses, I was exposed to the latest research regarding content knowledge and instructional strategies. The courses included multimedia cases with video of actual classrooms, students and teachers and administrators. We reflected on what works, we collaborated on the design of solutions to instructional challenges and put those theories into practice.
Winner of 2010-2011 Excellence in Gifted and Talented Education Award ~ Emma K. Doub School for Integrated Arts and Technology is one of five schools in the state of Maryland to receive the Maryland Execllence in Gifted and Talented Education (EGATE) school award. Our school staff was recognized at a state reception in Annapolis on February 16, 2011. We received a Governor's citation and a citation from the Maryland State Department of Education. We also received a banner to display, signifying us as an EGATE school. In addition, our school will appear on the MSDE website and host celebratory visits from members of MSDE and the State Advisory Council for Gifted and Talented Education. EGATE schools also serve as models and resources for other schools hoping to achieve EGATE status
I helped provide artifacts and organized our portfolio for application. We attended a conference and presented to other teachers in Maryland. Other schools throughout Maryland visited our classrooms and spoke with us to how to achieve this wonderful award.

I was lucky enough to be a supervisor to candidates of MAT program, through Frostsburg University. I had a student teacher in the Fall and Spring Semester. My role was to guide upcoming teachers and model a successful classroom. I had to evaluate their lessons and classroom management. I am proud of my former student teacher who landed a job as a fifth grade teacher!
I was part of a great program through the University of Maryland. It was a writing collaboration. We modeled how to integrate writing in all subjects! In particular, we focused on writing and technology. People from the program also came and visited our classroom to gather new ideas. Dr. McCaleb spoke and recorded interviews with my students and myself throughout the course.
